Preformed Playground Markings

Schools and nurseries that have Preformed Playground Markings  are now able to enhance them with a wide variety of colourful and imaginative thermoplastic school markings. These have been designed to promote physical activity and educational activities for children of all ages, while providing a fun, safe environment.

These can include a range of different shapes and patterns that can be used for creative games and activities that encourage movement, coordination and balance. There are also designs that mimic road systems, such as zebra crossings and stop signs to teach road safety, as well as fitness trails and running tracks to inspire exercise. In addition, there are also mazes to challenge problem-solving skills and spatial awareness.

Interventions involving multicolor playground markings and/or physical structures have been shown to increase moderate and vigorous levels of children’s school recess physical activity in the short term. However, this effect was lessened in the longer term. Randomised controlled trials with appropriate comparators and measures of objective outcomes (such as heart rate, accelerometers or pedometers) are needed to investigate the longer-term effects. These trials should also investigate differences between girls and boys. Playground markings are much easier to install than paint, and they will last significantly longer, making them a more cost-effective option over the long term. In addition, they are free from harmful solvents and VOCs, which makes them a greener choice for schools. This is especially true when compared to painted markings that will need to be reapplied regularly.
